Landmark Trees of The City of Fremont
Explanatory Notes:
The 60 trees, or groups of trees, were chosen from a survey of 124 locations throughout the city and in order to qualify for landmark status, trees had to satisfy one or more of the following criteria:
- Historical significance.
- California nativity or exceptional adaptability to California.
- Inclusion within an interdependent stand of trees.
- Visual accessibility and desirability of location.
- Present condition and state of health indicating a high chance for survival.
- Horticultural or aboricultural interest expecially in regard to skyline effect.
- Permanence of location with minimal possibility of future removal because of land development.
- Trunk diameter 16" or more measured at 24" above natural grade of ground.
Definition of Terms:
- Conifer--Cone bearing evergreen tree with needle leaves.
- Deciduous--Sheads leaves in fall and remains dormant in winter.
- Broadleaf Evergreen--Having green leaves throughout the year
